چکیده

In this paper, we study the progressive collapse of three-dimensional framed structures made of reinforced concrete after the sudden loss of a column. The structures are represented by elastoplastic Euler-Bernoulli beams with elongation-rotation failure threshold. We performed simulations using the discrete element method considering inelastic collisions between the structural elements. The results show what collapse initiation and impact-driven propagation mechanisms are activated in structures with different geometric and mechanical features. Namely, we investigate the influence of the cross sectional size and reinforcement and of the plastic capacity of the structural elements. We also study the final collapse extent and the fragment size distribution and their relation to , , and to the observed collapse mechanisms. Finally, we compare the damage response of structures with symmetric and asymmetric reinforcement in the beams. Numerical Study of Progressive Collapse in Framed Structures: A New Approach for Dynamic Column Removal (TECHNICAL NOTE)

Progressive collapse is a situation where local failure of a primary structural component leads to the collapse of adjoining members which, in turn, leads to additional collapse. Hence, the total damage is disproportionate to the original cause. The most common local failure in framed structure is assumed to be column failure. In this paper, a new approach for dynamic column removal in framed s...

Meso-scale Modeling of Tension Analysis of Pure and Intra-ply Hybrid Woven Composites Using Finite Element Method

One of the key issues associated with using of composites in various applications is their tensile behavior. The tensile behavior of a composite material is strongly influenced by the properties of its constituents and their distribution. This paper focuses on gaining some insights into the tensile process of pure and hybrid woven composite reinforced with brittle and ductile yarns. For this pu...

Effect of Structural Height on the Location of Key Element in Progressive Collapse of RC Structures

After the failure of an element in a structure, its loads should be redistributed on the other elements and the structure must provide some new paths to carry the load. If such new load paths are not provided, collapse progression will begin in the structure. As the beginning of progressive collapse in a structure is more sensitive to the missing of an element, the location of that element is m...

Parametric study of the progressive collapse of 2D framed structures

In this paper we study the response of 2D framed structures made of reinforced concrete to the sudden removal of columns. For comparative reasons, the 2D frames are considered as part of 3D structures with same overall structural mass and external load potential. In particular, we study two sets of 2D frames, with different height-bay ratio λ of the structural cells. Each set counts 3 frames wi...
